Facebook: Social Networking Or Alienation?

I find this perspective interesting. I personally use Facebook all the time but when I think about it, I don’t call or link up with my friends as often as I did before FB. I know its a distraction, if I have a deadline, project or paper due… I’ll disable my Facebook until I am done because it is so tempting to waste time on it. I’ve also gotten a few stalkers through FB… people seeing me in person and asking about my life whom I’ve never met before. At the end of the day though, its OUR choice to put ourselves out there like that, so you can’t hate on the Social Network… its nothing without the users!

But some who steer clear of the site say it can have the opposite effect of making them feel more, not less, alienated. “I wasn’t calling my friends anymore,” said Ashleigh Elser, 24, who is in graduate school in Charlottesville, Va. “I was just seeing their pictures and updates and felt like that was really connecting to them.” FULL ARTICLE
