A female suspect has been killed and one police officer has been injured after a shooting on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. Watch a live stream of the events here.

 

The Senate and House were on lockdown following reports that shots were fired on Capitol Hill on Oct. 3, but the lockdown has since been lifted. Read on for more details.

 

 

 

Shooting In Washington D.C. On Capitol Hill — Live Stream Updates

 

After multiple shots were fired, police actively pursued a black vehicle that was driving erratically toward the White House. Police were authorized to use force against the vehicle. Shots were fired against the vehicle, which was later discovered to be carrying a young child as a passenger.

 

The girl was removed from the vehicle after the chase and subsequent crash, and appeared uninjured following the shoot-out.

 

Senators, Congressmen React To Shots Fired On Capitol Hill

 

Many congressmen and senators were in the area when the shots rang out, and some took to Twitter to express their feelings.

Rep. Bill Posey (R-Fla.) was on the balcony of the speaker’s lobby when he heard “five or six” gunshots, according to Politico.

 

“Boom, boom, boom, boom, boom!” he told the site. “Then sirens went off, cops started going everywhere yelling ‘get inside, get inside!’”

 

The U.S. Capitol issued a statement after the shooting, saying, “Gunshots have been reported on Capitol Hill requiring all occupants in all House Office Buildings to shelter in place.”
